Hot & Spicy with Nando's in Anton Lembede Street, Durban

South Africa's famous creative spirit is alive, well and burning brighter than ever and Peter is proud to be a part of the Nando's family of talented artists...

Nando's embarked on their art project in 2002 providing a platform for South African artists to create works of art for display in their restaurants around the globe.

"What you won’t find when visiting Nando’s is a ‘cookie-cutter’ approach. That’s because each restaurant has its own special design. Doing things this way has meant a little more work, but we believe it’s really worth the effort and the result is pretty unique," says Nando's.

We were commissioned by Nando's appointed design agency in South Africa to supply an artwork for the store located in central Durban. Vertical Ink was responsible for producing a high quality print on wood of Sekai, one of Peter's distinctive African Renaissance artworks for display at the Nando's Anton Lembede Street using their unique state-of-the-art wall decor alternative. “The World's First Vertical Surface Printer” is now available to the South African market exclusively from Vertical Ink Franchises.

Sekai - 4.2m x 1.6m

Using innovative printing technology they were able to print a 4220mm x 1623mm (13ft 10inches x 5ft 3.89inches) artwork directly onto a wooden surface from a digital image provided by us directly onto the vertical surface, transforming this large and empty space into a colourful and joyful celebration of our unique South African heritage.

Vertical Ink offers a specially designed cutting edge printer that can print on rough or smooth surfaces with ease.

"Instead of touching the surface our printing head floats along the surface gently spraying microdots of environmentally friendly ink onto the print surface to create a breath-taking image every time. This innovative way of printing makes it possible for us to print on uneven and rough surfaces like brick walls. Our non-toxic, UV Resistant specially formulated ink is guaranteed for 20+ years indoors and 5 years for outdoor prints and can be washed 20 minutes after the print has been completed," says Evert Janse van Rensburg, representative of Vertical Ink.

Nando's loves how South African artists are setting the world on fire with their incredible talents and have acquired an amazing collection of artworks by South African contemporary artists for display in all their restaurants as a beautiful and constant reminder of their South African roots.
